Door Progress
For this project I created a door that would open to a teleporter so you would be sent to a different location. It would also serve as a sort of way point to easy access to other locations. Although II worked on the teleporter as well, I still need to figured out how to get other factors to work such as adding sound as well as each place I want it to allow you access and how many I would need in the creation.
The Door Problem
What size is a door?
Does it have to be big enough for a player to get through?
Can the player open every door in the game?
Each of these points influenced how I created my door because my objective in its creation is to make it so the player can access every door, but in order to access, they need to be able to find the object that triggers it to open. The door I felt needed to be large enough for a player to get through, because when getting through the door you would be teleported.
Other Door Problems
Level Designer: “I put the door in my level and locked it. After an event, I unlocked it.”
I felt this had an influence in my work because it gives me the idea that the player needed to do some action such as press a trigger button or some other object to make the door open and close.
UI Designer: “There’s now an objective marker on the door, and it has its own icon on the map.”
They are going to be used as way-points, this was why I felt the point influenced the way it is being created. Hopefully with making markers on the way points it could help the player navigate a little easier and help them if they feel that need to start from the beginning or need to locate the objective point.
Creative Director: “Yes, we definitely need doors in this game.”
When taking this point into consideration, I need many different doors in order to create this because I want to make different teleportation spots and I would need multiple doors for multiple locations.
The Blueprinting
Problems:
When creating my door there were a few times that I messed up the data as well as the location of the object. The coding would cause my object to ether not go down as much as i liked or the location would change into a more distant location. Though as I listened I understood it more and figured out the problem pretty easily.
Leasons:
While making the project I listened to the class video but was also able to learn form a few other tutorials. My favorite was how it described how to make a teleporter so you can change from a location to one that is further away. I was able to place that into my project and currently have a teleporter addition to my door.
Future:
In the future I hope to learn to create objects around the door, making it look much more like a door and also get into a little more into details and possibly shape it in different forms.
